TopChop Zero is an ultra-low calorie chopped fibre made from British oat straw, with added apple flavour and mint to encourage intake. It contains no added molasses or sugar coating and is designed to provide mature forage without excess energy.
With an exceptionally low energy value, TopChop Zero acts as an “empty-calorie” fibre, helping to extend forage intake while reducing overall calorie consumption. It allows horses and ponies to trickle-feed for longer periods when grass, hay or haylage must be restricted, supporting healthy digestion and hindgut function.
Developed at the TopSpec Equine Research Centre, TopChop Zero is suitable for overweight horses and ponies with good teeth, including those prone to laminitis or sensitive to richer forage. It can be fed as a partial hay or haylage replacer or used as a low-calorie mixer for greedy eaters.
Naturally low in sugar and starch, non-heating, dust-extracted and free from artificial additives, it also includes a small amount of linseed oil to reduce dust and added limestone to support calcium levels.
